Hi, my name is Beth

I’m the person behind Mother Tongue Berlin. Originally from Wales, I’ve lived in Germany for over 30 years and hold both British and German citizenship. I have a degree in German and a formal certification in teaching German as a foreign language.
I know how hard it is to squeeze language learning into a busy life. My lessons focus on real communication—less heavy grammar drilling, more practical understanding.
Learning German comes with plenty of roadblocks, and I’ve likely hit every single one of them myself. I am here to help you navigate them with clear, tailored advice.
Because standard classes rarely fit a chaotic schedule, I offer one-on-one sessions built completely around your needs in the comfort of your own home.
If you’d like to get started, drop me a message via the contact form and we will find a way that works for you.
I began my teaching career specializing in language support for new parents, equipping them with the essential vocabulary needed to navigate early parenthood.
Although I now teach a wider range of clients, working with new parents is still incredibly close to my heart. I love helping families build the practical language skills they need for daily life — whether that’s securing a daycare spot, calling the pediatrician, or setting up playdates.
As a parent whose two children were born in Berlin, I understand what you are going through. I’ve navigated the local system myself, and I bring plenty of patience and genuine empathy to your journey. If you ever have questions or need guidance on how things work here, I’m here to help!
